Spring Growth

Thirty-four shoots are emerging off of four original shoots on this Borealis haskap plant. Growers can expect growth in spring during cold weather. Growth will slow later in the season.

    1. Not sure where in S. ont you are located, but Ridgeview Garden Centre in Grimsby/Beamsville had Tundra, Borealis, Cinderella and Indigo Gem (pollinator) earleir in the year. Don't know if they still have them, but they are nice healthy bushes and are doing well. We planted 6.

  2. Please do not take this the wrong way, but I am sold on this plant but how does one actually obtain plants for personal use in my backyard? I'm in Ontario and am extremely frustrated in the fact that not one retail nursery in southern Ontario has these for sale. I'm not talking about the Haskap only, even the basic Lonicera caerulea var. edulis is not available. Is it too early for haskap for retail distribution? If so, can you recommend an Ontario retailer who has the older version? Thanks. I can't wait to start growing these things for the family to enjoy!

  3. FFT,

    Thank you!

    JVE,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

And yes, haskap is currently that rare at retailers, although we have had reports that some retailers are marketing honeyberry varieties under the name of haskap. If you want haskap you will have to ask for and receive Borealis or Tundra.

We are aware of the lack of availability of haskap through retailers. http://haskap.ca/ has a list of propagators (click 'plants' on the left once you enter the site). Unfortunately, some of these suppliers only supply in bulk. Haskap does ship well, but make certain that you request it be packed well as some have received damaged plants from transit. And also be aware that they are in limited supply because of bulk demand. Many mail order nurseries do supply varieties of honeyberries (Cinderella, Berry Blue, etc.). At present we are not aware of Ontario retailers who sell haskap. Tell us what you find.

    All the best!

    Craig

I'm not a retailer, just a gardener but maybe I can help. Drop me an email at trenthillsca@gmail.com.

  5. Please check Lost Horizon Nursery in Acton Ontario. http://www.losthorizons.ca/ I spoke to Larry Davidison a few weeks back They are selling Haskap.

They carry two varieties but I do not see the pollinater listed. I forgot to ask about the pollinator. Will these plants set any fruit without a pollinator.

    1. You will need 2 varieties to cross-pollinate. Apparently Lablaws will be selling ($20?) Haskap plants this year but I do not know which variety/varieties?? Good luck and happy planting.
